The Scarlett Lee Kees Scholarship was recently established with the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Foundation. On hand for the presentation were (from left) Scarlett Kees and Co-Lin Foundation Executive Director Angela Furr.

The Scarlett Lee Kees Scholarship was recently endowed with the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Foundation by her son Ashley T. Kees. The scholarship was established to benefit a student who graduated from high school in Simpson County, who has at least a 2.5 GPA, and who needs financial aid to attend college.

Scarlett grew up in Pinola and attended Pinola Elementary and Mendenhall High School. She graduated from Co-Lin in 1960 with a degree in liberal arts. During her time at Co-Lin, she was head cheerleader and was selected as a Homecoming maid, campus beauty, and class favorite. After graduation, she attended cosmetology school in New Orleans and became a cosmetology teacher. She married C. Jay Kees in 1963 and raised four children in Jackson. In 1997, she returned to Pinola to enjoy the beautiful forest and creeks. She describes her time at Co-Lin as the best two years of her life.

Contributions to the Scarlett Lee Kees Scholarship, or any other scholarship, can be mailed to the Co-Lin Foundation at P.O. Box 649, Wesson, MS 39191, or made online at https://www.colin.edu/alumni-foundation/give-now/.
