Co-Lin early childhood building dedicated to board member Tommy Sasser

A dedication ceremony was held recently at the newly named Thomas Sasser Early Childhood Education Center on the Wesson Campus of Copiah-Lincoln Community College. The ceremony was standing room only for a large crowd of family, friends, colleagues, and Co-Lin supporters.
“I have had the privilege of working alongside Mr. Sasser for more than twenty years,” Co-Lin President Dr. Jane Hulon Sims said as she welcomed guests to the event. “Not only has he been a steadfast source of support for the college, but also a friend and mentor to me and so many others. He is so deserving of this honor.”
Sasser was first appointed to the Co-Lin Board of Trustees in 1985 and served for 10 years. He was appointed again in 1999 and continues to serve on the board today. Sasser served as chairman of the board from 2018-2021.
Board chairman Melton King echoed Dr. Hulon Sims' sentiments, thanking Sasser for the insight and support he has offered during his time as chairman.
“It is a privilege to be able to recognize one of our very own servants with the naming of this facility,” said King.
Early childhood program director Felisha Hampton, lab school director Melissa Kyzar, and children from the Co-Lin Childcare Center presented Sasser with a framed photo of the building and a canvas painted with their handprints.
“I’m at a loss for words,” Sasser said during his response. “If you would have told me, a little red-headed boy from Bogue Chitto, that I would have a building named after me I would have laughed and told you that you were wrong. I feel like I owe Co-Lin more than Co-Lin owes me.”
