Co-Lin Simpson County Center Automation & Control program boasts new equipment
Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Automation and Control Technology program at the Simpson County Center recently received a substantial equipment donation courtesy of Phoenix Contact, a global Automation and Control manufacturer based in Germany with offices in Harrisburg, PA.
“We are very fortunate to be part of Phoenix Contact’s EduNet program, which provides state-of-the-art automation equipment to Co-Lin and other member colleges at no cost,” said Automation and Control Program Coordinator Charles Nix. “Other member colleges in the program include Purdue, Penn State, University of Texas, and Pennsylvania Technical, just to name a few.”
The Automation and Control program at the college’s Simpson County Center welcomed its first class in 2018 and is now housed in the new Career-Technical Building, boasting an impressive lab with brand-new equipment for hands-on training. The most recent donation from Phoenix Contact included over $86,000 worth of equipment including 20 industrial computers, touchscreens, and various control modules and devices.
“This equipment will benefit our students enrolled in the Automation and Control program greatly, enabling them to be on the cutting edge of automation technology,” said Dr. Dewayne Middleton, Vice President of the Simpson County Center. “We sincerely appreciate the support from Phoenix Contact’s EduNet for this major donation to our program.”
Co-Lin offers the two-year Automation & Control program on all three campuses and trains students for employment as an automated manufacturing systems technician in maintenance diagnostics, engineering, or production in an automation environment. Recent graduates of the program are now earning extremely competitive salaries and benefits working for companies like Nissan North America in Canton, Entergy, Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Sanderson Farms, and more.
