Six outstanding students inducted into Copiah-Lincoln’s Wesson Campus Hall of Fame

Six outstanding sophomores on Co-Lin’s Wesson Campus have been named to the college’s Hall of Fame, the highest honor that can be given a Co-Lin student.

During the college’s Annual Awards Day, Copiah-Lincoln President Dr. Ronnie Nettles announced the 2014 Hall of Fame recipients are Daisey Martinez, Laura Speights, and Jacob Tarver, all of Wesson; Caroline Coleman of Meadville, Jonathan Nations of Brookhaven of Brookhaven; and Erin Whittington of Hazlehurst.

Daisey Martinez is a graduate of Wesson Attendance Center. She serves as President of the Eta Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and President of the Trailblazers, Martinez is a member of President’s Council, President’s Cabinet, and Student Government Association. A Taylor Presidential Scholar, Martinez was selected Miss Co-Lin and to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. She was also the recipient of the Russell Ray Leadership Endowment and Outstanding Trailblazer Award.

She is the daughter of Maria Del Cid and Pablo Martinez.

Laura Speights is a graduate of Wesson Attendance Center. She serves as the State Parliamentarian and Chapter Vice President for Phi Beta Lambda, Vice President for Communications of Phi Theta Kappa, and President of the Student Government Association. Speights is a member of the Student Voices, President’s Council, Sigma Kappa Delta, Trailblazers, and the SeaWolves Underwater Robotics Engineering Team. A President’s List student, Speights was selected to Phi Theta Kappa Order of the Golden Key and Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. She is the recipient of the N.B. and is a Taylor Presidential Scholar.

She is the daughter of Scott and Sharon Speights of Wesson

Jacob Tarver is a graduate of Wesson Attendance Center. He servi as Vice President for Fellowship for Phi Theta Kappa, Student Government Treasurer, Phi Beta Lambda Reporter, and Vice President of the Trailblazers. A Vice President’s List student, Tarver was a member of Sigma Kappa Delta and Student Voices. He was selected to the All-Mississippi Academic First Team, Coca-Cola Gold Scholar, Campus Favorite, and Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. He was the recipient of the James Robert “Jim” Lowery Memorial Scholarship and the Graydon and Helen Mullen Memorial Scholarship.

He is the son of John and Lisa Tarver of Wesson.

Caroline Coleman is a graduate of Brookhaven Academy. She serves as Vice President of Scholarship for Phi Theta Kappa, President of the Alpha Omega Science Club, and Sophomore Representative for the Student Government Association. She is a member of the Trailblazers, Art Club, Baptist Student Union, and Food Service Committee. Coleman was selected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges and was the recipient of the Robert “Bennie” Channell Scholarship and other leadership and academic scholarships.

She is the daughter of Danny and Loree Coleman of Meadville.

A graduate of John Ehret High School in Marrero, Louisiana, Jonathan Nations serves as CEO of the SeaWolves Underwater Robotics Engineering Team. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and National Technical Honor Society. A military veteran, Nations was selected Technical Student of the Year, Precision Machining Student of the Year, and Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. He is a SkillsUSA Gold and Bronze Medal winner and is National Institute for Metalworking Kills (NIMS) Certified.

 

He and his wife, Sarah, live in Brookhaven. Nations is the son of Freddie and Eve Nations of Brookhaven and James and Sara Gumm of Marerro, Louisiana.

A graduate of Copiah Academy, Erin Whittington serves as Vice President of Membership for Phi Theta Kappa, Secretary/Treasurer of the Alpha Omega Science Club and Librarian of the Concert Singers. She is a member of the SeaWolves Underwater Robotics Engineering Team, Phi Beta Lambda, President’s Council, The Wolf Tales, and the Trillium. Whittington was selected All-Mississippi Academic Second Team and Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges.

She is the daughter of Ken and Susan Whittington of Flowood.
