MagillOnLiterature Tip Sheet
How To Start

Click on MagillOnLiterature from KPL's Online Homework Centre page. You may choose the Basic Search or Advanced Search. The default page is the Basic or keyword search page.

Basic(keyword)Search
After Find: type your search term. You may type a single term or use Boolean operators (and,or,not) to refine a search. In addition you may fill in the Search Option screen to assist in narrowing your search.

Advanced Search
Here you can use limiters such as full text, author's gender, author's cultural identity, author's national identity, genre, series type etc. and field codes can be used to limit your search to Author, Title and other fields.

Displaying Records
Your results will be displayed 10 records at a time. Click on the title of the novel or work to view the citation of the article followed by the full text of the article. Or click on the HTML Full Text to only view the article attached to that novel.

You may print, e-mail or save an article or citation to a folder. Saving your choices to a folder allows the user to keep track of their most valuable information. It is in fact marking the article for later use or work.
To print or e-mail your saved article(s) click the print or e-mail button. Follow the instructions provided.

Other Options
Subject Search- Type the first few letters of a subject and press Browse. Check any subject heading you wish and click on Search. The numbers after the subject heading indicate how many books are classified in that category.
Author Search- Type the first few letters of an author’s last name and press Browse. Check any authors you wish and click on Search.
Principal Characters-Type the first letters of character’s first name or last name and press Browse. Check any characters you wish and click on Search.
Genres-Type the first few letters of a genre and press Browse. Check any genre heading you wish and click on Search. The numbers after the genre type indicate how many titles are classified in that genre.
Title Search-Type the first few letters of a title and press Browse. Check any title listed and click on Search.
