NJCAA 3rd Place National Softball Tournament

          NORMAL, Ill. - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves captured third place in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Softball Tournament at Champion Fields. The Lady Wolves, who made their first ever appearance in the national tournament, lost to the Parkland (Ill.) Community College Lady Cobras 2-1 in the semi-final game. The Lady Cobras (49-7) are ranked No. 2 in the NJCAA poll and are 2-time runners-up.

          Co-Lin, who finished their season at 39-9, defeated Parkland 2-1 in an earlier match up. The Lady Wolves lost to the two-time national champions Phoenix (AZ) College 2-1 in 9-innings. Phoenix (55-9) defeated Parkland 6-1 in the championship finals.

          "We wound up third, so we have nothing to be ashamed of," said Co-Lin coach Allen Kent. "We lost to the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the nation. We played some real quality teams."

          "Our girls accomplished a lot this season," said Kent. They put Co-Lin softball on the map. We had tremendous fan support."

          Sophomore pitcher and Arkansas Tech signee Emily Horne of Pearland, Texas and freshman Annie Selman of Crystal Springs (Copiah Academy) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
