Co-Lin Softball Signs Two Franklin County
Players

Copiah-Lincoln Community
College Head Softball Coach Allen Kent announces the signing of
Franklin County’s Monea Cameron and Melissa McFarland.

Monea is a talented athlete
with speed to burn. She really has a lot of potential and
should only continue to improve now that she will be focusing on
only one sport. We will continue to work with her from the left
side of the plate. Monea has the capability of putting up some
really big offensive numbers. She also covers a lot of ground
in the outfield.

Melissa is a right handed
pitcher with good movement. She has improved her control and
should be able to provide support to our pitching staff. When
she has everything working, she can be very effective.
We’re excited about having
these girls join us. We hope to have them gain additional
experience this summer playing travel ball.
It’s been several years
since we signed any players from Franklin County. It’s good
that the Bulldogs are developing some players who can really
contribute. They have some talented athletes coming up, Coach
Smith is doing a good job with them. I know she has several of
her girls playing summer ball. That is an area where they can
really make significant improvements.
Coach Kent is in
his 6th year as Head Coach of the Lady Wolves. Prior
to this season, he has compiled a 113-33 won/loss record. The
2006 squad were the MACJC State Champions, the NJCAA Region 23
Champions and finished 3rd in the NJCAA National
Tournament in Normal Illinois.
Coach Smith had this to say about Cameron and McFarland:
Monea is a great athlete. She can play any sport well. She has a
lot of speed and agility. This is her 3rd year to
ever play fast-pitch. She has adjusted well and is swinging from
both sides of the plate. She has a strong arm and quick hands as
well. Monea has been an asset to the softball program here in
slowpitch since the 7th grade. She is an exceptional
outfielder who covers a lot of ground. Last year she had 23
stolen bases and this year her batting average is a 528. Over
the past few years Monea has learned how hard work can pay off.
I believe that learning that one thing has made her into the
person she is today. She is hardworking, caring and a voice the
girls listen to. She has been a good team captain. I am glad to
have coached her and I wish her the best in her future.
I have been watching Melissa since she was 13 years old. I have
watched her grow and mature into a hard working, strong minded
young lady with a great Christian attitude. Melissa has been an
asset to Franklin County softball since she was an 8th
grader. She has been an All District Player for 4 years. She
has a wide variety of pitches including the rise, drop, curve
and screwball. She has maintained a 440 batting average this
season. As a Junior she had 150 strike outs. This year after
only 11 games she has already struck out 90 batters. She has
become a wonderful leader with a good attitude. I am proud of
her accomplishments. I look forward to watching her play on the
next level, and I wish her the best.
