Co-Lin 1 vs. Parkland 2

          The Lady Cobras scored the winning run in the bottom of the third inning. Shortstop Shelby Binion to led off the inning with a double. A sacrifice bunt and an RBI single put Parkland up 2-1.

          The Lady Wolves tied the game at 1-all in the top of the third inning when Holly Pyles singed with 1-out. Annie Selman reached base on a fielder's choice. With two outs, Selman stole second base and sophomore Jackie Stowe hit a line drive to center. Selman slid into home and fought her way to the plate before the tag.

          Right fielder Erin Douglass singled to center and Stowe appeared to slide under the tag on the high throw to home, but was called out.

          Co-Lin threatened to score in the fourth inning with runners on second and third with one out, but could not get the runners home.

          Emily Horne absorbed the loss. She struck out 6, walked 2 and gave up 6 hits. Horne threw her fourth game in three days giving up a total of 6 runs, 4 of them earned.

          "Emily kept us in the game. I can't say enough about how big she stepped up in this atmosphere," said Kent.

          At the plate, Douglass led the Lady Wolves with 2 hits. Horne added a single.

          "This is a very special group of girls," said Kent. "Our sophomores will be difficult to replace. I appreciate all the help of Johnny Williams has provided as an assistant coach."

          Parkland scored first in the bottom of the first inning on a walk, a passed ball, a wild pitch and a single.

          The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves took the two-time National Champion No. 1 ranked Phoenix College (AZ) Lady Bears to 9 innings before bowing 2-1 in the third round of the National Junior/Community College (NJCAA) National Softball Tournament at Champion Fields.

          "We went toe-to-toe with the No. 1 team in the Nation and had a chance to win it," said Co-Lin Head Coach Allen Kent. "We can't hang our heads, we just have to do it the hard way tomorrow."

          Co-Lin defeated the No. 3 ranked Parkland (IL) Community College 2-1 in the second round of the tournament. The Lady Cobras were runners-up in the National Tournament in 2005.
