Co-Lin Softball inks 3 from Bogue Chitto We are pleased to announce the signing of Candace Avants, Chelsey Miller and Devon Welch. Avants is a speedy left-handed hitting catcher/utility player who we are looking to provide immediate impact. Candace showed drastic improvement last summer playing travel ball with Southern Ice. She became a very good slapper and drag bunter, as well as just swinging away from the left side. Those things, combined with her speed, makes for a very tough out. Candace improved her defensive skills as well. Her receiving, framing, blocking and throwing all showed marked improvement. She does a great job of absorbing instruction and applying it on the field, she really wants to learn. Candace also played several positions on the infield and the outfield this summer. This versatility just makes her even more valuable. She really blossomed as a player last summer and we look for big things from her. Miller is an outfielder with above-average speed. She began working from the left side of the plate last summer with Southern Ice and showed flashes of good potential. Chelsey just needs more reps from the left side to become more comfortable and to continue to improve. Her speed makes her a very difficult out when she puts it in play from the left side. Chelsey can cover a lot of ground in the outfield and has a sure glove. Welch was Bogue Chitto’s leading hitter as a junior. She is working on some adjustments at the plate that will make her a better hitter in our league. Devon has good speed and quick hands. Welch spent this summer with Southern Ice playing travel ball and played several positions in the infield, as well as the outfield. One common denominator here is playing summer fastpitch and not slowpitch. They all made significant improvements this past summer by working on their games and facing above-average competition. This takes dedication from the girls, as well as their families. These girls all have the potential to become everyday players for us. It is a testament to the type of athletes they have at Bogue Chitto. Besides being good athletes, these girls are fun to be around and they come from good families. That is always a bonus.
