Diamond Wolves outscore Hinds
WESSON – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolfpack baseball team
exploded for 16 hits to defeat the Hinds Community College Eagles 13-9 in a
9-inning contest. Sophomore right fielder TaeByus Smith of Monticello led
the way with a double and 2 singles.
Starter Trent Hartzog of Monticello pitched well for 4 innings. Hartzog, a
5-11, 175 freshman gave up 7 hits, 5 runs, walked 1, and struck out 6.
Patrick Shumaker (1-0) relived Hartzog in the fifth innings to pick up his
first win. A medical redshirt in 2007, Shumaker pitch 2 innings allowing 3
hits, 4 runs, and 2 walks. Freshman Christian Malbrough came on in the
eighth inning to pick up the save.
At the plate for the Wolves (2-1) leftfielder Paul Davis and Smith each had
3 RBIs. Adding support with a double and a single were Montez Chatman and
Cameron Logan. Recording 2 singles apiece were Davis, Steven Gauthe’, and
Josh Coone. Singling were Mitch Pappas, Timmy Foster, Jordan Toney, and
Jared Rogers.
Absorbing the loss for Hinds was Shane Bennett. He led the way at the plate
for the Eagles, with a home run and 2 singles. Greg Howard homered. Tyler
Wells doubled. Hitting 2 singles apiece were Nick Carlson and Josh Gordon.
