Copiah-Lincoln Community College Executive Vice President Dr. Ronnie Nettles (right) presents Wolfpack shortstop, Steven Gauthe’ with his 2007 Rawlings Gold Glove Award at the 2008 home opener.

WESSON, Miss. – Co-Lin shortstop Steven Gauthe of Belle Rose, La., is one of nine recipients of the first-ever Rawlings Gold Glove Awards for National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Baseball. Nine two-year college baseball players receive the award for their superb defensive play this season.

In 125 chances at shortstop for Copiah-Lincoln, Gauthe recorded 77 assists, 40 putouts and just six errors for a .952 fielding percentage. He also was a part of 14 double plays. Gauthe led the Wolfpack in hitting with a .387 batting average and on base percentage (.464). He accounted for 4 doubles, 1 triple and 1 home run with 16 RBIs and was 10 for 11 in stolen bases. Gauthe played for the Arlington (Va.) Senators in the Clark Griffith Baseball League this summer.

The Rawlings Gold Glove Award is the benchmark of excellence and performance in the field for major leaguers. However, beginning in 2007 the award will now also symbolize the best of the best at the collegiate and high school levels.

This year, college and high school players flashing serious leather have the opportunity to win the inaugural Collegiate and High School Rawlings Gold Glove Awards as Rawlings celebrates its 50th year of the Rawlings Gold Glove Award.

In partnership with the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), Rawlings is presenting the first-ever Rawlings Gold Glove Awards to players in NCAA Divisions I, II, and III; NAIA; NJCAA Divisions I, II, and III; and High School.

Gauthe’ is the son of Phil and Betty Gauthe’ of Belle Rose.
