 Library Policies

Circulation of Materials

·  You must be a currently enrolled student to check out materials from the Taylor Library. 

· Students will be required to show ID cards when checking out books from the Library and borrowing reserve materials for use in the Library.

· A student may not check out books by using another student's ID card or by signing for another student.  The person checking out the book or borrowing the reserve materials will be held responsible for those items until they are returned to the Library and properly checked in.  Patrons should not loan books and materials to others.    

· Reference books, magazines, microfilm/microfiche, videos, and computer programs are for use in the building.  Reserve materials in the Library are also restricted for use in the building.

· Circulating books may be checked out from the Library for two weeks and renewed once for an additional two weeks during the regular academic sessions.    ALL BOOKS are due in the Library by the first day of final exams. 

·  Students are allowed to have eight books checked out at any one time, with a limit of four on a given subject.

·  Fines are $.25 per day per book with a maximum of $5.00 per book.

·  Students with overdue items or fines will not be allowed to borrow materials until items are returned and fines are paid.

·  Students are responsible for any lost or damaged items checked out to them.  Students will be charged for the cost of replacing or repairing the lost or damaged items.

·  Holds are placed in the Office of Admissions and Records for students not clearing with the Library at the end of the semester. 

Non-Student Use

·  Members of the general public are welcome to use print resources in the Library but will not be allowed to check out materials.

·  The primary use of the Library will be for Co-Lin students and faculty conducting serious research.  Therefore noise and other distractions must be kept to a minimum. 

·  Anyone, of any age, making noise, creating a disturbance, or disrupting the use of the Library by other patrons or students in any way will be asked to comply by the rules or leave. 

General Policies 

We welcome you to use the Taylor Library and its resources, but we ask that you abide by the following policies while doing so: 

·  Patrons are requested not to eat or drink in the Taylor Library.  In addition, SMOKING and the use of are prohibited in the Taylor Library by the Board of Trustees of Copiah-Lincoln Community College.   

·  Students should remember that the Library is a quiet place conducive to studying and not a place where students can be noisy and disturb others.  Should a staff member ask an individual or a group to be quiet more than once, then the individual or group

will be asked to leave the building.  Constant disciplinary action against an individual or group will be turned over to the Dean of the Simpson County Center for further action.

 

· Students should refer to the section in the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Student Handbook for further rules and regulations concerning conduct by students in the Library.  

·  The Mississippi Library Security Act of 1978 makes it a crime to abuse library property.  This includes removing library materials from the buildings without proper authorization; willfully damaging materials, including cutting articles out of books, magazines, and newspapers; and failing to abide by the general rules and regulations set forth by the department.  (Mississippi Code, 1972 as updated Section 39-3-301; Penalties are contained in Section 39-3-309.)

Computer Use Policy

·  Must be a currently enrolled student at Co-Lin to use computers.

· First time computer users must register at the circulation desk.

· Students will verify enrollment at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, as requested, by displaying their current Co-Lin ID card.

· Users will work quietly at all times.

· Limit print-outs.  Library may charge for copies made.

· In times of great demand, time-limits can be placed on users with priority given to those doing educational research. 

· Authorized Users:
· Co-Lin Employees

· Current Co-Lin Students

· Alumni of the College

· Appropriate Use:
· support of instructional activities
· support of independent study & research     
                                        
·pursuit of educational information via the Internet
· MAGNOLIA and other reference
databases 

·  Limited Use:
The computers can be used on a limited basis (time restrictions apply), when available, for:
· E-mail
· Internet searches not related to specific educational programs as long as sites are not visited which are deemed inappropriate in an educational setting. 

· Restricted Use:
The computers are not available for the following:
·Sites deemed obscene or pornographic
·Chat rooms – not associated with on-line community college courses.

· Violation of the Computer Use Policy may result in the following penalties:
· Reporting of the violation to the librarian and/or Dean
· Suspension for varying amounts of time or the permanent revoking
of computer privileges
· Referral to the appropriate law enforcement agency of violations of state or federal law.
