Dorm Students should be aware that network resources are monitored.  Excessive utilization especially in terms of outbound traffic generated will generate questions.  Peer 2 Peer applications will be monitored and abuse WILL RESULT in room disconnection from the network.  IT IS ILLEGAL to share copyrighted materials.  We will take all necessary actions to protect our network resources.

WHERE DID THE MUSIC GO?

You may have noticed that you can not use tools like Kaaza, Gnutella, etc to download music.  The RIAA would love to sue you and us, so we plugged a hole.  We use a Packeteer packetshaper to control and prioritize network traffic.  Also we use  a web filtering to block access to restricted sites.

TO USE THE DORM NETWORK
You must have:

    Network adapter (purchase at Bookstore)
    Cat5 cable (purchase at Bookstore)

Network ports are on until a problem is detected.  It is possible that a port has been administratively shut down due to virus  or some other questionable activity.  The application form for network access is no longer required.  If you do not have any network activity on your port, contact 601-643-8488.

If you are using a Laptop without an adapter, the Bookstore will also sell USB ethernet adapters.  These are cheaper than PCMCIA adapters.

Adapters, cables, and hubs may be available in the campus bookstore.

If you purchase a router, be careful with your DHCP and WAN port configuration.  Having your router issue DHCP addresses on our network will target your port to be shut down.
