Peru's Amazon Rainforest



For students taking the course/trip for
academic credit, the following requirements

COURSE Humanities (HUM) 1113 or Spanish (MFL) 2613 (both electives)
Co-Lin CATALOG DESCRIPTION HUM: An approach to man's creative achievements in art, literature, music, and philosophy in western civilization. This course consists of a tour studying the culture of European man.
MFL: Extended travel and stay in a Spanish-speaking country for a total immersion experience in the study of the language, history, and culture of the native people.
CREDIT 3 hours
PREREQUISITES None.  No previous knowledge of Spanish is required.
INSTRUCTOR Linda Royals Flynn, Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Natchez campus
INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS Lecture, handouts, discussion forum, Internet research, travel journal, chat room, suggested videos + TEXTBOOK (see assignments page for ordering info).
ATTENDANCE POLICY Class to meet via the Internet online; pre-travel assignments to be completed via Internet/email; also serves as attendance during regular semester.
TOUR OBJECTIVES Through various methods (handouts, video, lecture, Internet research, and assignments) students will:
#1 Become familiar with the process of foreign travel, including passport application/visa, customs, and travel with language differences.
#2 Learn similarities/differences in Spanish/Portuguese and U.S.American culture.
#3 Learn survival techniques for foreign travel and different modes of travel.
#4 Become familiar with the history of the host country, the geography, and the customs.
#5 Learn basic, travel Spanish/Portuguese, such as greetings, introductions, restaurant & airport dialogue.
