Sally has been an art teacher at Lipsey Middle School in Brookhaven for 5 years. Besides a certification in Elementary Ed. she has a BA and MSW degree in social work.  God opened the door for Sally to teach art for which she is truly grateful.  Sally has been active in the Brookhaven community from teaching children’s art classes at the Recreational Dept. to serving on the Brookhaven Arts Council. She enrolled in the Thursday night beginning Ceramics class in the fall of 2001 and found it so enjoyable that she came back to the Ceramics II class.

Sally based her design on the painting by Van Gogh: Starry Night. She chose to create a mosaic design depicting the night scene with a wolf high above the hill howling across the gorge at the moon. (look on the hip for the silhouette) The textures and colors she chose convey the movement and lonely howls of the wolf.

The chosen medium of expression includes assorted stones, specifically, Venetian glass tiles, river rocks, tumbled beach glass and archeological tiles. Sally chose black grout to give the design unity. The completed mosaic was coated with Mod Podge to give it a glossy finish and seal.

Sally wants to acknowledge her friend Edna Womack for her assistance and support in the project.
