Vision Statement

The Senior Community Employment Program (SCSEP) at Copiah-Lincoln Community College will be the recognized leader in assessing and meeting the employment and training needs of economically disadvantaged adults over the age of 55 in the twelve-county service area. Participants in the program will be provided quality opportunities for employment, skills enhancement, and training to promote transition into unsubsidized employment. Enrollees will be assigned to governmental or non-profit agencies that provide meaningful employment and training for the enrollee while allowing him or her to perform a valuable community service.

 

Mission Statement

The Senior Community Employment Program (SCSEP) at Copiah-Lincoln Community College enables economically disadvantaged adults 55 years of age or older to attain gainful employment and realize personal development through assignments to governmental and non-profit agencies. The dual purposes of SCSEP, which is implemented through useful, part-time community service assignments to older adults with limited incomes and to promote transition of these adults into unsubsidized employment.

 

Background 

Copiah-Lincoln Community College SCSEP consists of the Senior AIDES program and State Title V program. Under the Older Americans Act, both programs are funded through grants from the U.S. Department of Labor. Federal monies cover wages, fringe benefits, and supportive services for enrollees. Local sponsor agencies provide most other project costs

Work sites in non-profit or governmental host agencies are carefully selected by projects to furnish supervision, instruction, and training for assigned Senior Aides. Host agencies also agree to consider hiring enrollees whenever job opening occur.  

The SCSEP staff directs and oversees all projects to assure compliance with federal regulations and Senior AIDES Program policies and procedures.
