DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM AND OPERATION
Children learn mostly from experience. They experience things with their senses and
through their movements. As the play, they try out their ideas and succeed or make
mistakes through trial-and-error learning. Children also learn from hearing adults
explain things in words. Mostly what they learn from being talked to, however, is
language and how to use it. Once children have experienced the way something works,
they are ready to talk about it. They may even learn more from such conversation,
but only if it takes place after actual experience. Copiah-Lincoln Child Development
Center will implement the Creative Curriculum concept. This curriculum represents and
attempts to construct a developmentally valid educational framework for children who are
functioning in what Piaget calls “preoperational” period of development. Preschool teachers
will plan for and lead children in active learning. Active learning is fostered by providing
children with opportunities and motivation to interact with people and materials. Play-
experiences are basic to children’s development and active learning. They are based on learning
tasks for play and are intended to help children with developmental tasks.
